Janice M. Cusano received her Ph.D. in Music Education from Indiana University with a minor in Higher Education Administration, a Master's degree in Piano Performance from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. She holds lifetime teacher certifications for K-12 Band, Choir, and Orchestra in the states of Texas and New Jersey.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Janice taught K-5 music and choir in Texas while earning her Kodaly certification from North Texas University and is a specialist in teaching music literacy. After earning her doctorate she has worked as a music education professor at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and Loyola University, New Orleans where, as Coordinator, she was responsible for the undergraduate and graduate music education programs. Dr. Cusano's areas of specialization include children's choirs, training teachers to incorporate music reading skills in the choral rehearsal, and multicultural music education.
Janice has an extensive performance career as a collaborative pianist, choral director, clinician, choral participant and accompanist. She has served as a director with the Indiana University Children’s Choir and Assistant Director of the Green Bay Girl Choir and the Multicultural Music Chair for the state of Wisconsin. Currently, she is Music Director at Unity of Roanoke Valley, Accompanist for the Roanoke Valley Choral Society, Roanoke City Schools, and maintains a thriving private music studio where she offers vocal coaching, piano accompanying, and sightreading.
